Fire storm update
October 23rd, 2007
Hello dearhearts — me and mine are alive and well, although we’ve packed a few things and aren’t sleeping the night through; I’m writing this from the library … the home lines are down.
We’re surrounded on three sides with fire, and a couple are close … certainly close enough for people around here to be freaking out and wearing masks. The schools are still open but in “lockdown” — nobody goes outside. In San Diego County, to the south, schools are out til Wednesday at the soonest; north of here as well, schools are out and some business’s are closed — in all 7 counties, folks are being urged to stay off the roads and limit cell phone use.
Neighbors have taken in family members forced to relocate — some of our family members have been mandated out of their homes and are staying with friends. The Community Center here is open for refugee’s as is the Church of Religious Science and others. Any number of roads are closed, so you never know when you’ll be turned around and headed back where you came from. The hot wind, the smoke, the tension … all quite exhausting. Weather report says it will cool and there might even be a bit of rain in the next days … to God/dess’s ear.
There’s no other news on TV so we’ve got 24/7 coverage of hundreds of homes burnings, and for many of us, memories going up in smoke with them … and since I haven’t had access to a computer, I don’t know what ELSE is going on in the world. I feel quite uninformed. Like … has Pat Robertson said we deserved it yet??
Hopefully, the net will work tomorrow and the fires will not spread this way … until then, keep the Light shining for all of us.
Jude
